2009 Beginners'
Fly Tying Class

January/February 2009

The 2009 Clinch River TU fly tying class was a great success again this year.  As usual, the class was full with 10 students participating. The students learned to tie nine (9) flies and the skills they acquired during the classes will enable them to tie most patterns on their own. There was some mention of a possible intermediate or advanced class later on in the year. John Thurman signed up most of the instructors to tie eighteen (18) of their favorite pattern for an upcoming Casting for Recovery (CFR) event in April. Two of the ladies in this year's class are past participants and very active in CFR. Jeff Wade made a walnut fly caddy and Pam Krapf won the drawing for it. The students walked away with new skills, a Chapter fly box, and lots of questionable fish stories from the instructors.
