The VERY popular Clinch
River TU fly tying class was a great success again this year.
The students learned to tie nine flies and the skills they acquired during the classes will enable them to tie new patterns on their own. There was some mention of a possible intermediate or advanced class later on in the year. Jeff Wade made a walnut fly caddy and Terry Douglas won the drawing for it. The students walked away with new skills, new friends, a box full of flies, and lots of questionable fish stories from the instructors. Buzz Buffington reports that 11 students graduated March 6 from the 2010 Clinch River TU, Beginning Fly Tying Class. They are: Beth Van Fossen, Cliff Posman, Don O’Neill, Jim Stokely, Nathan Stokely, John Caldwell, Jose Malagon, Kevin Hodgson, Terry Douglas, Randy Davis, and Pat Howard. Classes focused on using different fly-tying materials and techniques to tie nine patterns useful in the mountains and tailwaters. Buzz said we had a great group of students and had a lot of fun.
