LOTS OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Please mark Saturday, June 6th on your calendar for Kids Fish Free Day on the Clinch River.  We can use everyone’s help, so please review the list below and see what you might be able to provide or would like to join in to make this a fun, safe, educational experience for the kids and their parents.

WHAT :         Kids Fish Free Day on the Clinch River:

The Tennessee statewide “Free Fishing Day” is Saturday, June 6th.  No fishing license is required on this date.  The Clinch River Chapter of Trout Unlimited in cooperation with the Tennessee Valley Authority and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will be sponsoring Kids Fish Free Day at Miller Island.  The activities will take place at the TVA Miller Island Access on the Clinch River in Norris. 

Volunteers will be on hand to teach kids to bait, spin, and fly fish.  Some equipment will be available for loan to children who may not have any, but would like to try fishing for the first time.  This event is suitable even If you know how to fish, but would like to learn more about trout fishing.  Other activities will include fly tying demonstrations, aquatic entomology displays, bug hunts, casting lessons, boat rides, and folks to discuss stream ecology

WHEN            Saturday, June 6th -- 10:00 am until 1:00 pm
                        Try to arrive by 9:00 or 9:15 to help set up and get ready for kids

WHERE:        Miller Island Parking lot --  

                       DIRECTIONS TO TVA MILLER ISLAND PARKING LOT: 

                        If coming from I-75, take Clinton/Norris Exit #122.  Go towards Norris.  Pass the Museum of Appalachia and turn left onto Highway 441 towards Norris Dam. Just past the little white church (Island Home Church), turn left onto River Road.  Drive about one quarter mile and take first right into parking lot

ALL CHAPTER MEMBERS AND FRIENDS:  FOLLOWING IS LIST OF THINGS TO DO AND BRING TO HELP MAKE THIS SUCCESSFUL FOR THE KIDS.  Can you volunteer anything on the list or think of anything else?

Boats for kids’ rides out in the water (WE NEED MORE BOATS THIS YEAR!!)

Bring your canoe this year to take the kids fishing

Extra spin rods

Old fly rods

Extra waders – especially small ones for kids

Extra life jackets

Hooks

Leaders

Tippits

Corn

Fly tying materials

Fly boxes for the kids to put their flies in that we help them tie

Tent will be set up by All Occasion Party Rentals

Folding chairs -Carol

First aid kits

Release forms  -- Carol to bring

Arrange for fish stocking day before – Contact Rick Bivens with TWRA -- Buzz

Arrange for TVA to hold off generating -- Buzz

LOTS of extra bodies to assist with everything like:
 

bulletTaking the kids in water to fish
bulletHelping kids on and off with waders
bulletShowing kids how to cast
bulletPutting together rods and reels, etc.
bulletFly tying demonstrations and lessons
bulletBoat rides for kids
bulletGetting release forms signed by a parent or guardian of the kids
bullet Corralling kids and watching that they are safe
bulletMaking sure equipment is turned back in after borrowed

Grill to cook hot dogs.  Snacks and drinks will be provided.
