At our November 2005 meeting, chapter leader Buzz Buffington arranged for Scott Baker, one of the most creative and innovative fly-tying enthusiast in the Eastern U.S., to present our program. Scott demonstrated several flies including his Hackle-Back Stone Fly. Buzz said, “Scott's patterns will "knock em out" on the mountains and tailwaters of East Tennessee. His stone flies are so realistic that I'm afraid to hold them in my bare hand.” Scott lost his hearing several years ago and while he speaks well, he cannot hear. His girlfriend Michele DeFelice, a professional interpreter joined us to facilitate questions and discussion. Scott's program was outstanding and included beautiful flies, laughter, and a door prize! We would highly recommend Scott for your programs or fly tying lessons. Scott can be reached at scottbaker20@bellsouth.net. |

In addition to his fly tying instruction for the class, Scott put together a diorama. It's intended as an underwater scene (without the water) with flies attached. Stones, gravel, tree roots, and a little vegetation... plus resident flies. He made a little game of it with a door prize. People wrote their name and the number of flies they counted on the display. They tossed it in a bag. At the end of the presentation, the first person who's name was drawn with the correct answer won the door prize. | ||||
| Scott said, "I can only hope some small amount of helpfulness will prevail from the presentation and notes. It is my fervent desire to help others learning to fly-fish and to assist in gaining a greater satisfaction from their own fishing and tying experiences." | |||||
