Clinch River Chapter Trout Unlimited
Tire Round-up 2004
14 August 2004

A great gang of volunteers showed up for the annual Clinch River Chapter Trout Unlimited's Tire Round-up to remove old tires from the Clinch.  The good news was that more than 200 tires were removed from a section of the Clinch River. The bad news is that after removing more than 5000 tires in the past three years, there were and are still tires to be removed.  Volunteers brought tools to "snag" tires from the river bottom.  Boats were used to float the tires to the riverbank and were either "winched" up or unloaded by "bucket brigades".  A dump truck and two boats were filled to the brim and hauled to Anderson County's tire recycle center.  Thanks to Frank Sewell for opening the center for us when we finished for the day.  The weather was perfect.  The water was cold.  Everyone left with a sense of accomplishment of a good deed done.

Thanks to volunteer members of the chapter, friends and property owners (for allowing river access) as listed at the bottom of this page.  View the photos from the day below.
