12 August 2009
| Even starting the day out with fog making it hard to see,
volunteers cleared a section of the Clinch River of over 110 more tires
and other debris on Saturday, 12 August 2009.
Volunteers have removed over 6,100 tires from the Clinch River and Coal
Creek in the past eight years. Buzz Buffington, who is obsessed with removing tires, led the effort and did a fine job of managing the logistics as always. Volunteers brought tools to "snag" tires from the river bottom. Boats were used to float the tires to the riverbank to haul to the proper dump. The weather was perfect. The water was cold. There was lots of laughter and foolishness. |
