Watch for details
regarding special Chapter Outing
in September Over the past few years, a number of Clinch River Trout Unlimited chapter members, old and new, have expressed an interest in learning more about how to fish the Clinch. We believe the best way to learn how to fish a river is to partner up with someone who has learned how to fish that particular stream and go fishing with him/her. On a September Saturday to be decided, chapter members and family members are invited to meet at the Norris Dam parking lot (immediately below the dam) at 9:00 am. Anglers who are not familiar with the ins and outs of Clinch flyfishing will be partnered up with experienced anglers and get to spend a few hours fishing with them. This should be a good learning experience and a great way to spend a few hours on the Clinch. The water is very cold (in the 50s) so layer up with clothing and socks. You will need chest waders and don’t forget to bring drinks and lunch or a snack of some kind. |

Clinch River
Trout Study Results "The attached graphs show our mean electrofishing catch rates (for the 12 monitoring stations) since 1996. Catch rates went down in 2004 and 2005 because of the high flows in the tailwater, but came back nicely in 2006. In fact, we reached or exceeded our management plan objectives for trout 14" and over (30/hr.) and for trout 18" and over (8/hr.) in '06. We had exceeded the management plan objective for trout 7" and over (200/hr.) in 2003, but the catch rate fell off in '04 and '05. It's on the way back up now (about 170/hr. in '06).” |
